What to do right now to get your face and body ready for spring.

As the days get longer and temperatures begin to climb, off go the sweaters and boots and on go the shorts and sandals.

But while your spirit may be singing the praises of spring, it’s also likely your skin is still crying out with the winter blues — dry, scaly, rough, spots on heels, knees, and elbows as well as stressed- out, overheated, undernourished skin on your face and body.

Nothing is worse for skin than a long, cold winter — the low humidity in conjunction with hot air, heat, and less fresh air often can leave your skin looking dull, dry, rough, and even wrinkled and older

Knees, elbows, heels, and toes can also suffer from a winter in boots — where too often what we don’t see, we neglect.

Moisturise , Mositurise,  Moisturise !  Can’t stress enough the importance.

When our feet and legs aren’t on display the way they are during warmer weather, we tend not to moisturize as much, and we don’t pay as much attention to things like dry cuticles; unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for skin that is neglected to react, becoming dry, dull, and flaky, and sometimes even red and inflamed.

The good news: Beautiful, summer-sweet skin is closer than the nearest watermelon patch! The best place to start, say experts, is with a head-to-toe moisture treatment — and you don’t need high-priced products to do the job right.

There is nothing better than donning a pair of white cotton socks after slathering your feet with a good moisturizer,  it’s not a myth and it really can dramatically change the way your feet look and feel, almost overnight.

“If you don’t like sleeping in socks, moisturize and put on your socks and sneakers, while going for a walk.  If hands are in equal need of a spring makeover, coat them with mosturiser, and then don a pair of white cotton gloves.

“Any time you are doing a household or garden chore that requires you to wear rubber gloves or gardening gloves, put on mosturiser then the white gloves, then the rubber gloves over that,” By the time your chores are done, she says, you’ve given your hands a pretty terrific beauty treatment.

Love to hear your ideas on what you do to look after your skin!

Teenagers and skincare!

Posted by Julie on July 14, 2009

I had a great morning this morning with a group of teenage girls,, giving them the chance  learn about basic skincare & make up as part of a program on self esteem.   Such a great idea, and too bad more schools don’t do it.

What was great to see,  was at last half of the girls were looking after their  skin.   This is so important as using a quick and easy skin care regime, will go along way to eliminate skin problems and more importantly establish a routine for them, as important as brushing their teeth.

It is such a simple thing to do, that can go along way to help them with self worth and  at a cost of less than a $1 a day, so easy to do.

Contact me on barker@netspace.net.au  to find out about special skin care packs I have on offer desig for teenagers!!

Till next time,

Julie

Are you looking after your skin!

Posted by Julie on June 21, 2009

Welcome to the first edition of my skin and make up tips blog page.   I hope to give you quick and easy tips that are easy to use.

Looking after your skin in your 30s & 40s.

As we age our skin cell renewal slows further, while damage from pollution, smoke and sunlight begins to take its toll on the dermis. This causes collagen fibres to loosen so the skin starts to sag.

When you smile, subcutaneous fat forms ridges that refuse to bounce back as readily as they once did. Your first wrinkles may start to appear.  Sounds depressing but there is things you can do.

Action plan

    • Ensure you have established a daily skincare regime that involves cleansing, moisturising and protecting your skin from the sun.   For further protection, try using an antioxidant face-cream, such as one that contains Vitamin E.
    • Eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A, B, C and E that fight off free radicals in the environment .
    • In general, keep drinking plenty of water to retain further moisture in your skin.
    • Make sure you’re getting enough sleep – we all know how much a few restorative nights’ sleep improves our complexion.
    • Use a vitamin-packed night cream. Research indicates that the temperature of skin rises at night, so nutrients are better absorbed.

Stay tuned for more to come!
