Festive Fabulous – How to choose the right Eye Makeup to sparkle this Christmas.

Posted by Julie on December 2, 2009

The ‘Three Ls’ make up the basic stages of eye makeup application-

Lids, Liner, Lashes- and you need to be sure your make up bag has the perfect product for each stage if you want to make the best of your peepers.

Lids

The eye lid are where it’s at for colour. There are so many gorgeous colours out there at the moment-. But that means it’ can be so tempting to go wild and pick the brightest, most glittery tone you can find but nothing screams drag queen more than over the top eyes. The truth is you should pick colours that sort your natural colouring and base all your eye looks around that. The best eye makeup styles are made of three colour tones on the lid.

Firstly a base should be applied between the lashes and the brow. This needs to be a very light colour that just creates a shimmer. A grey/silver or beige/gold shade usually works best.

Next to add colour. You will need a main colour for the whole lid and then a darker tone of the same colour for the crease and corner of the lid if you want to emphasise your eyes and make them the main feature of your face. Experimenting with colours you like is the best way to learn what suits you best but check out the colours we think work best:

Blue Eyes : The natural colour of blue eyes shines brightest when surrounded by warm natural colours. Using light brown tones with a pretty pink shade always works well.

Green Eyes: Dark brown or mocha shades are great for a natural earthy daytime look while purple tones contrast well with green eyes to create more drama.

Hazel Eyes: The different coloured flecks in hazel eyes allow you to highlight the different tones depending on your mood. Try using a green shadow with a hint of gold alongside a pale yellow or lighter green to pick out the different tones within the brown of your eyes.

Liner

Eye liner is probably one of the most common things that people struggle with when it comes to beauty. The hassle of getting your lines straight and even and avoiding smudging can make it all too tempting to give this stage a miss but it really is essential in defining the shape of your eyes.

The secret to perfect eye liner is all about choosing the right product for you. There are three main types of eye liner to choose from.

Pencils: are best for beginners. They glide on easy and can be blended and smudged without much effort.

Liquid Liners: last the longest and create the most drama but you need a steady hand to apply the liquid and it’s not so easy to remove if you make mistakes. .

*Black eye liner may look too severe for those with blonde hair and fair skin so try using a brown or grey shade to soften the look.

Lashes

Lovely lashes are the finishing touch to any gorgeous eye look. The longer and thicker you can get your lashes the more glamorous they will look.

Enjoy till next time.

Importance of using good make up brushes!

Posted by Julie on November 5, 2009

Hi everyoneimages

Investing in good brushes is a must and ensure you always get the best out of your makeup and a much better finish.

What is the different brushes used for!

Medium Size Round brush – great for bronzing and powder application.  Don’t choose one that is too big, as you won’t get definition with the bronzer, but avoid anything too small as the result will be patchy.

Angle Brush – A small stiff brush that has one side of bristles shorter than the other.  It is designed for creating fine lines of colour around the eye.

Eye Blending Brush – This is a fluffy, small, blending brush for the eye area. It is used to blend out colours and combine shades on the eye seamlessly.

Foundation Brush – A foundation brush aids in applying liquid for a sheer result.  It is more hygenic than using fingers and blends in colour around the hairline, jaw and nose.

Love to hear your comments on make up brushes, which ones you can’t live with out.

till next time

Bronzer in the Right Place For a Beautiful Glow

Posted by Julie on September 6, 2009

Bronzer in the Right Place For a Beautiful Glow

Bronzer can be a blessing, or an unfortunate beauty disaster. Bronzer is not meant to be slathered on your entire face. You don’t want a bronze mask, but instead a pretty, “glowing” highlight. Use these tips when applying bronzer:

Use a big, natural hair makeup brush for your bronzer. The focus of the bronzer’s placement should be approximately where the sun would naturally hit your face; across the forehead, the bridge of the nose and the apples of your cheeks. Don’t forget to dust a little on your neck and chest too, if those are exposed. If you overdo it and it end up looking a little too much orange, just grab a clean makeup sponge to wipe off some of the excess.

Just pop on some lippy and you are good to go

Did you know that lipstick gives confidence?

Posted by Julie on August 11, 2009

According to a recent survey of Australian women by Heat Group.

60% of women consider make-up to be a necessity not a luxury.

42% of women surveyed said they wear make-up to improve their looks.

36% said they wear make-up to increase their confidence.

60% said they were content with their appearance most of the time, 30% said satisfied sometimes, and 5% are never satiisfied with the way they look.

Women who wear make-up are perceived as more authoritative and earn up to 30% more than women who don’t wear make-up.

Interesting!!!

Does your mascara pop?

Posted by Julie on August 5, 2009

Do you ever notice how amazing the model’s eyelashes look in the beauty shots for cosmetics ads? Of course they do! They have makeup artists who spend hours making the model’s lashes look perfect. Makeup artists on commercial sets use anywhere from three to five different types of mascara, a lash comb, a toothpick, and a tweezers to make each lash stand up just right. If you had a makeup artist poring over your eyelashes for three unbelievable hours then yours would, too. But let’s get real! There are a few basic things you can do to make the most out of whatever mascara you are using:

  1. If your Mascara pops – this means it is still moist and hasn’t dried out. – old mascara doesn’t go on smoothly, making your lashes dry, short and clumpy looking. – ideally replace every 3 months.
  2. Get a hand mirror – when you apply your mascara, hold the mirror down by your nose and look into it. This will allow you to see the root all the way to tips of your eyelashes and gives you the best length possible for application.
  3. “Wiggle and Pull” – wiggle the brush back and forth to ensure your lashes grab the most mascara possible from the wand. It’s great for volume and length.  Don’t pump the wand – this introduces bacteria into container.
  4. Go Slow - practice your mascara application technique and take time out of your makeup applying routine to devote to applying your mascara. Great lashes make a big difference!

Is Mineral Make Up for everyone

Posted by Julie on July 25, 2009

Hi Everyone

Had a great night last night with a group of ladies playing with make up and exploring Mineral Make up.  There were lots of questions, about it, so this got me thinking,  is Mineral Make up for everyone.   The answer is no,   while it is a great alternative and a lot of people love it, and it is fantastic for your skin.  The best thing is to try it and decide for yourself if you like it.  The coverage is different, and you can’t tell you are wearing make up, except for the way it enhances your natural complexion.  Great if you don’t like the feel of wearing a liquid.  Great for oily skin, as it won’t clog up your pores, ( just watch the colour shade as Mineral Make Up darkens as you wear it).   Perfect for daytime as you are protecting your skin and with SPF enhancing your skin.

Avoid Mineral Make Up with talc in it, as it ia carcinogenic and as we can breathe it in, somthing to avoid.

The best thing is to have a try and get some advice on it,  organise a catch up and have a  try,  and see for your self.  I think it is great and love what it can do for the skin and has a beautiful natural feel to it and very easy to use, ( check out the video on the 4 easy steps)

I will explore more on this topic.

Let me know what you think??

Six Tips for Kissable lips!

Posted by Julie on July 10, 2009

-here are a few tips to get ultra soft, smooth, kissable lips:

  • Apply  a lip balm to your lips each night before bedtime
  • Use an exfoliator on your lips – Lip Scuff is great; this will remove all the dead bits of skin and leave you with smooth lips.
  • Always use a water-resistant lip balm with SPF protection (yes, even in the winter).   The skin on your lips is ultra thin and delicate. Since you don’t need to “tan” your lips, too   much sun exposure will cause your lips to burn, chap, or worse. This can make applying any type of lip color a nightmare. A protective lip balm will prevent damage and soften your lips all at the same time.
  • Use a lip liner that is close to your natural lip color. You don’t want to use one that’s too dark – your lip liner is there to help keep your lip color in place and make it last longer, not to create a distracting line around your mouth.      Beech is a great colour that can be used with both brown and pink lip colours
  • When applying lipstick, blot your lipstick with a tissue after applying each layer. This will give your base lip color extra staying power.
  • After applying your lipstick, finish off your look with a soft, shiny lip gloss. But be sure not to go overboard on the gloss – too much can take your lips from gorgeous to gooey. Glosses are lighter and easier to apply, so you can quickly and easily touch up the shine if needed.

These tips will give you a perfect pout and help your lip color last much longer .
